FRIENDS!
I am SOOOO EXCITED to announce the launch of my official crowdfunding campaign for a brand new album! WHOOP WHOOP! This is my first “Cara” album in over 13 years, and I'm kinda still in shock that it's happening. It's an album all about heart, about coming home to oneself, about community, connection, joy, grief, love… All the things that make us human.
I'm making this album with 3 incredible friends – Clayton Parsons, Julia Graff and Scott Poley. Each of these folks have poured their energy, expertise and hearts into this project. It is truly a collaborative effort, and the first experience of its kind for me.
Making albums is expensive, and it's getting harder (dare I say almost impossible) to recoup one's recording expenses through physical sales, downloads and streams. And yet recording music is how we as artists can share our offerings with others. We need our support communities now, more than ever before, to help us get these gifts out into the world.
I invite you to once again hop on board the Cara Train as one of my Music Angel Crowdfunders, where all monies raised go towards covering the costs. I am one of the pioneers of the crowdfunding model (since 1997), and simply put, without it there would be no Cara Luft (or Small Glories’) albums, and no Cara Luft career.
My goal is $45K, broken up into 3 sections:
1st CROWDFUND GOAL: $20K
Production costs (studio time, engineer fee, musician fees, producer fees)
2nd STRETCH GOAL of $10K: total $30K
Mixing, mastering
3rd STRETCH GOAL of $15K: total $45K
Marketing, Promotion, Publicity
Money, as those of us who need to use it know, is more than just a medium of exchange. It’s also a vehicle for expressing what we value. My hope is that you, my community of supporters, continue to find meaning in this way of participating in the creative economy. If you believe, as I do, that home-grown and hand-made music helps make the world a better place, a place you’d rather be alive in, then this is the project for you!

Ps Like all my previous other campaigns, I've opted to launch via my own site and not use one of the many crowdfunding sites that are available. There are fees associated with these sites -- they all take a percentage, upwards of 15%. I've always grappled with this and it never sits well with me, so I’ve gone my own way :) I want you, my supporters, to know that your entire contribution goes directly to the project, not a % being siphoned off the top.
If you're unable to pre-order, you can help by spreading the word :) Old-school Word of Mouth is one of the best ways to support independent artists. And if you're on social media, you can re-share posts and follow my accounts. The algorithms are impossible to understand, so good ol' sharing is worth its weight in gold. Every little bit helps! :)
